Punto Ciego - Preliminary work

Todo empezó con Alva y Greg.I started prelim work on Punto Ciego around September 2008. Many of those early sketches are lost amongst the many sheets of paper I've used, but like many projects, it all started with a simple idea. From that idea, a visual component was born, and this visual component influenced the story, which influenced the story, and so on. It all started with Alva and Greg.
Meche y Julia nacieron poco después del concepto completo de Alva y Greg:The idea was to, somehow, get together a stereotypically sh, artistic "long-hair-covering-her-eyes" kind of girl, with a cool, handsome, adventurous, daring kind of guy. Of course, this basic setup wouldn't work, so it became necessary for both of them to have a couple of skeletons in their closets. It was also necessary to bring more characters into their lives: Thus, Meche and Julia were born. Armando would come around November, when I was writing the Chapter 0 script, in order to give more coherence to the world. Meche and Julia, though, were created shortly after the concept for both Alva and Greg was more or less set:
Julia and Meche exist as a complement to Alva: Julia is a rebellious, playful figure, more sociable as a way to contrast with Alva; Meche, on the other hand, represents a motherly figure, responsible and hard working. Originally, they had different personalities from their current incarnations; these changed soon after I developed both of their backgrounds and realized their personalities should be coherent with their past experiences.
Alva and Greg also went through a similar process, but that's something I'll talk about on a later date.

Anoche / Last Night

Drawn last night on Colors!. The only problem I find with this App is that most of the time you will miss a couple of spots due to its resolution. Once you get the image, and check it on the image editor of your choice, you will find all sorts of things wrong with it,even though it might've looked OK even at 4x Zoom.

In short, this is not quite the original I drew, but rather, it's been fixed from the original in an attempt to make it look adequate.

Simplemente no me veo ahí. Visitar, si, definitivamente: Hay mucho que ver y hacer. Pero, ¿trabajar? ¿Como profesionista? No gracias, yo paso.

From mid-February until last week I traveled back and from Mexico City. That's why I couldn't work in the comic at all; however, that does not mean I did absolutely no drawings. I took a couple of notebooks to draw in what little free time I could find. Otherwise, the non-art work I did was extenuating; there was one week I slept close to 3 hours per day, going to sleep at 4 in the morning, working. It was also horrible, making me hate my own work.
Now don't get me wrong, Mexico City is a gorgeous place, despite the chaos that has become commonplace; however, I do not see myself living in the place. I don't mind visiting, that's for sure. But living? Working? Professionally? No thanks, I pass.
Well, I'm including in this post some drawings I made while I was there. There aren't that many, and they're not date, but they have become a gauge of my emotional state while I was there. I hope you like them.

Ayer y Hoy / Yesterday and Today

[ENGLISH]
A couple of years ago I halfheartedly participated in the school newspaper at Tecnologico de Monterrey in Juarez. I never thought of a good subject for a strip to be included in this semi-monthly publication, so in reality I only published 2 strips. The first was published in March 2002, if I remember correctly, and included a prototypical version of the character now known as Penellope. It was my first published comic, and as such, it's horrendous. I don't know where I put the final comic, but recently I found within my Yahoo Briefcase (Thanks for the heads up about it shutting down soon, Yahoo!) the pencils of said comic. Because I don't have anything to post at the moment, I decided to post these pages for your entertainment. Enjoy!

En preparacion... / In progress...

-----------------

Just so you know, I think I've had enough of DeviantArt. It's a great community, for sure, and I will keep checking favorites and commenting and stuff; however, I also believe that it hasn't quite given me what I've been looking for as an artist. Thus, I'm moving here, a new space with a bit more freedom and control. I will also use it to keep up to date with my "weekly" comic. Circumstances outside my control have forced me to stop updating for a month, but as soon as I get back home for good, I will give a big, proper update to Blind Spot in both languages. I will post a heads up here. Meanwhile, I'm also tweeting frequently, and still checking my messages over at Deviant Art.
See you soon.
